The first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Ajit Jogi, was cremated on Saturday with state honors as per Christian custom. Jogi died on Friday. Officials in Bilaspur district said that Jogi’s body was buried late in the Christian cemetery at Jyotipur in Gaurala town in the district.

Officials said Jogi’s wife Renu Jogi, his son Amit Jogi, his daughter-in-law Richa Jogi and Ajit Jogi’s elder brother SR Jogi were present at the cemetery during this time. At the same time, the bishop and other priests of Raipur prayed for Jogi.

He said that during the funeral of Jogi, State Excise Minister Kavasi Lakhma, Revenue Minister Jaisingh Agarwal, Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, Former Minister Brijmohan Agrawal and other senior leaders were present.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Jogi’s body was taken from his teak bungalow in Raipur to Marwahi Sadan, his residence in Bilaspur. Where senior leaders and common people of Bilaspur paid their respects at his dead body. On the way from Raipur to Bilaspur, people showered flowers on Jogi’s vehicle in many villages.

Later Jogi’s body was taken to Jogisar, his homeland. Where the villagers and the people of their area saw their leader last. Finally Jogi’s body was brought to Gorella, where a large number of people gathered for his last darshan. Jogi’s body was buried in Gorella’s cemetery.

Officials said only his close family members and dignitaries entered the cemetery under rules designed to prevent corona virus infection.

Ajit Jogi, the first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, died on Friday in a private hospital in the capital Raipur. Jogi, 74, was hospitalized on the 9th of this month after his health worsened.

Jogi is survived by his wife Renu Jogi, an MLA from Kota region, and son former MLA Amit Jogi and his daughter-in-law. The state government has announced a three-day state mourning on Jogi’s death from Friday. During this time the national flag will remain half-tilted and no official ceremonies will be held.

Ajit Jogi, who came into politics from the Indian Administrative Service, was currently an MLA from Marwahi region. His wife Renu Jogi is an MLA from Kota region. Jogi became the first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh during the formation of the state in the year 2000 and remained the Chief Minister till the year 2003. The Congress was defeated by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the first elections to the state assembly in 2003.

Jogi formed the new party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) in the year 2016 due to differences with Congress leaders in the state and was its chief.
